Four hundred and eighty years ago, in 1637, the French philosopher, Rene Descartes, asserted the most fundamental principle that serves to affirm to the total sceptic one’s existence as “je pense, donc je suis.” The Latin version of this phrase, cogito, ergo sum, I think, therefore I am, entered popular discourse long ago. Founded in 2017, our press derives its name from the second half of Descartes’ formulation. Why leave out the verb? Because we’d like to leave it up to you, the reader of our books to fill in the blank.
